dia duit!
A dream trip for both my dear friend Mary and I. From the time planning, to reserving the trip, to getting on the plane and then to jumping in the manual and driving on the roads… was exciting! Besides our trip to the Bahamas following high school graduation in 1993, this was Mary’s first international trip and I was so in! We flew out of Boston, arrived in Dublin in the AM and took off. I, not having sleep, <was a dumbass> slipped and fell at Hore Abby Hore Abbey -also Hoare Abbey, sometimes known as St Mary’s- is a ruined Cistercian monastery near the Rock of Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland. Yeah, I think I had a concussion and was only in country for what, 2 hours? I survived.
We were very lucky to be there for two things: Ireland was the first country to legalize same sex marriage by popular vote, it was pretty cool to see the country’s newspapers, tv news, signs and more (almost all in favor of it). Also, and I am not sure why we didn’t get any pictures, but we got stuck in a cycling race (I cannot recall the name) but when we got to our villa there was a book on the table all about it. Our timing was spot on to witness that!
We went all over southern Ireland, had some great laughs, saw some great sights and just took in the country. It is definitely a place I’d like to return to… with Mary of course 😉
